Apple announces Hijab emoji on World Emoji Day

Apple revealed on Monday the final versions of a series of new emojis to be included in the newest version of its operating system across various platforms which will be released later this year, The Guardian reported.
“With thousands of emoji available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, there are many ways to add personality to every message,” an Apple statement read.
“New emoji include Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person and Breastfeeding, and food items such as Sandwich and Coconut,” it added.
Reactions on social media followed with many coming out in support of the act and congratulating Saudi-origin Rayouf Alhumedhi who had sent her idea to The Unicode Consortium.
“Adding different colour skin tones, adding different couples, will actually promote, hopefully promote tolerance,” 15-year-old Alhumedhi said while talking to Al Jazeera.
